Dr. Dunkle (he/him/his) brings over 30 years of experience in college student mental health and is widely recognized as a dedicated advocate for student well-being. Prior to joining Washington University in St. Louis, he served as Interim Associate Dean of Health and Wellness and Interim Director of the Counseling & Student Development Center at Bucknell University.
From 2020 to 2023, Dr. Dunkle was the Senior Clinical Director of Higher Education at The Jed Foundation, a New York City–based nonprofit committed to promoting mental health and preventing suicide among youth and young adults. In this role, he supported more than 65 college campuses in developing and implementing strategic plans focused on suicide prevention and mental health promotion.
Previously, Dr. Dunkle spent 25 years (1995–2020) at the Counseling and Psychological Services at Northwestern University, including 15 years as Executive Director.
He holds an associate degree in liberal arts from Corning Community College, as well as bachelor’s and master’s degrees in psychology from the State University of New York (SUNY) College at Cortland. He earned his doctorate in Counseling Psychology from the University at Albany, SUNY, and completed his pre-doctoral internship at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
In his free time, Dr. Dunkle enjoys mindfulness walking, biking, and other self-care activities. He’s also an avid traveler and a frequent binge-watcher of shows on Netflix and other platforms.
