Brittany Young (she/her) is a psychology doctoral intern who is completing her PhD in Counseling Psychology at the University of Memphis (U of M). She obtained her master’s in social work from the U of M in 2020.

She has worked in multiple settings during her training including an outpatient mental health treatment center, pediatric medical center, counseling center, and a bereavement intervention research study with St. Jude and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. She also worked as a student worker and then graduate assistant with the U of M Disability Resources for Students Office for 7 years.

Brittany adopts a decolonial, liberatory, and narrative theoretical approach to therapy. This healing approach entails promoting social justice and focuses on understanding historical, socioeconomic, political, and ancestral contexts as factors affecting psychological experiences.

She believes the process of change / healing results from unearthing individual and collective wounds and using them as sources of self-acceptance, empowerment, and agency. Her work with clients is collaborative, strength-based, and culturally inclusive.

In her free time, she enjoys exploring local coffee shops, watching reality TV shows on Bravo, reading, and yoga.
