Jiwei Wu, M.A., is a doctoral psychology intern who is passionate about helping students navigate emotional challenges, life transitions, identity development, and academic stress. He earned bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and French from Sewanee: The University of the South and a master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Kansas, where he is currently completing his Ph.D.
Jiwei has provided counseling services in university counseling centers, community mental health settings, and international telehealth programs. His clinical interests include anxiety, depression, stress, self-esteem, relationship concerns, identity exploration, adjustment, substance use, and academic motivation. He also has experience in crisis intervention, risk assessment, and safety planning.
Jiwei uses a person-centered and strengths-based approach, integrating cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and motivational interviewing. As an Asian bilingual clinician fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese, he values cultural humility and strives to create a collaborative, affirming, culturally attuned, and nonjudgmental space for students.
Outside of work, Jiwei enjoys hiking, exercising, rock climbing, gaming, and playing sports.
